What’s New for the 2018 Acura TLX?

Relatively new to the luxury midsize sedan market, the Acura TLX nevertheless has made a strong impression with its reasonable starting price and robust number of standard features. For the 2018 model year (its fourth), the TLX gets a new trim, which Acura calls “A-SPEC,” and stands apart with cool cosmetic features such as black headliner, red-and-black gauges on the dashboard, and garnish on the steering wheel and door sill. So, the TLX now has four trim levels: Standard, Technology Package (Tech), A-SPEC, and Advance Package (Advance).

The standard engine on the 2018 TLX is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine that generates 206 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. The upper-level A-SPEC and Advance trims go with the 3.6-liter V6 instead. With an output of 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, the V6 is optional on the Standard and Tech trims. Plus, with the V6, Acura allows you to swap the standard front-wheel drivetrain with all-wheel drive.

The cabin of the 2018 TLX provides two leatherette-trimmed rows and 93.3 cubic feet of passenger space to accommodate up to five people. The front row consists of two sports-style seats with heating capability, with 10-way power adjustability and power lumbar support on the driver’s side and 4-way power adjustability on the passenger side. The rear bench-style seat can be folded down to expand cargo space beyond the standard trunk space of 14.3 cubic feet. You’d need to upgrade to the Tech trim to get perforated leather trim. The A-SPEC and Advance have their front seating upgraded with cooling capability in addition to heating, 12-way power adjustability and power thigh extension on the driver’s side, and 8-way power adjustability on the front passenger side. And rear-seating heating capability is exclusive to the top-of-the-line Advance model.

Regarding comfort and convenience, the 2018 Acura TLX starts off with features such as adaptive cruise control, a power moonroof, Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, a smart keyless access system with push-button engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a remote garage door opener, and a seven-speaker stereo system that includes a complimentary SiriusXM satellite radio subscription and Acura’s On Demand Multi-Use Display touchscreen. Models above the Standard trim get enhancements and additions such as a navigation system, 10-speaker stereo, HD Radio, smart entry on all four doors, a solar sensor-based automatic climate control system, and Song by Voice speech-recognition technology. Exclusive to the Advance are remote engine start and steering-wheel heating capability.

Safety on the 2018 Acura TLX starts with features such as seven airbags, a multi-view rearview camera, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, and an electronic vehicle stability system with traction control and motion adaptive steering. With the Tech trim and up, you’d also get blind spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert. Acura adds Heads-Up Warning technology and a front and rear parking system on the A-SPEC and Advance. And on the Advance, the rearview camera is replaced by a surround-view one.
